Samenvatting
Het Waterloopbos is een bijzonder bos aan de rand van de Noordoostpolder. Hier was van 1954 tot 1996 het Waterloopkundig Laboratorium gevestigd en werd met schaalmodellen nationaal en internationaal onderzoek gedaan naar kustverdediging, waterlopen en havens. Na de sluiting kreeg de natuur de ruimte. Die maakte dankbaar gebruik van de bijzondere ecologische omstandigheden.
In 2002 kreeg Natuurmonumenten het beheer in handen en herstelde het watersysteem en de toegankelijkheid. De unieke cultuurhistorie bezorgde het bos in 2016 het predicaat rijksmonument.
Een nieuw hoogtepunt in de ontwikkeling van het bos is de transformatie van de Deltagoot. De ontwerpers van RAAAF
Atelier de Lyon maakten van dit icoon van waterloopkundig onderzoek een monumentaal kunstwerk dat de naam Deltawerk // kreeg. Met de bedoeling dat ook hier de natuur zich zal doen gelden. / The Waterloopbos, a wood on the edge of the Noordoostpolder in the Netherlands, has an interesting history. From 1954 to 1996 it was home to the Hydraulics Laboratory where scale models were constructed for national and international research on coastal management, watercourses and harbours. After its closure, nature took over – taking advantage of the unusual ecological conditions. In 2002 the land was transferred to Natuurmonumenten, a conservation organisation that restored the water system and made the area accessible again. In 2016 the woods were declared a national monument because of their unique cultural heritage. A new highpoint in the woods’ story is the transformation of the Delta Flume. The designers RAAAF
